Jakarta: The Communication and Information Ministry is committed to increase its cooperation with the General Elections Commission (KPU) and Elections Supervision Board (Bawaslu) in order to tackle political hoaxes.

"We now have signed the memorandum of action (MoA)," Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara said here on Thursday.

"We are ready to tackle political hoaxes," he told reporters after the signing of the MoA.

Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections in April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day.

In order to run for presidency, incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is endorsed by PDIP, Golkar Party, PKB, PPP, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, PKPI, PBB, Perindo Party and PSI. In the meantime, key opposition leader Prabowo Subianto is supporrted by Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PAN, PKS and Berkarya Party.

According to surveys, many Indonesians get at least some news from social media. As the result, they are prone to fall for political hoaxes.
