The holidays might be coming to an end, but there’s still time for one more seasonal treat. While visiting Sunshine Seasons at EPCOT, we spotted a new cake in the display case that looked just like a candle. This wintery Christmas candle cake looks pretty creative, so we had to give it a try.
The cake actually looks like a candle, with a fondant flame. There’s also a small buttercream holly decoration along the bottom. Beautiful white chocolate ganache tops the cake and is sprinkled with edible glitter to give it a little sparkle.
Not long after we received the cake, we realized where they came up with the name. The white chocolate ganache actually drips and runs down the side slowly like candle wax. We were impressed by the creativity in this dessert and how well the dripping wax effect was created with the ganache.
As we cut into the cake, we discover layers of vanilla sponge cake and eggnog mousse. The mousse was extremely thick and had a dense texture to it.
The flavor of eggnog was almost overpowering at first bite, we just weren’t expecting it. But it was delightful, and almost made us forget that Christmas is over. This is probably one of the strongest eggnog flavored desserts we’ve tried in a while. Personally, I’m already missing the frozen eggnog from the Magic Kingdom, so this cake is helping me cope.
The sponge cake is soft, but firm. It has a very light taste that allows the eggnog and white chocolate ganache to be the stand out flavors. Not only was this cake pretty, it was delicious.
For $5.99, this is a very nice sized cake that you could share if you wanted. This new treat will only be available until January 1, so make sure you don’t miss out. Will you be making your way over to EPCOT for this new candle cake?
