LOGAN SQUARE — Chiqueolatte, a chocolate cafe with roots in Luxembourg and the Netherlands, is opening its first U.S. location in Logan Square.
The franchise is taking over the old Half Italian deli at 2643 N. Milwaukee Ave.
On Thursday Chiqueolatte was issued a city permit for $450,000 in renovations, according to Chicago Cityscape, a site that tracks city permits.
The Logan Square cafe already has its own Instagram account.
Chiqueolatte’s existing locations in Luxembourg and the Netherlands serve an array of hand-crafted chocolate, fresh-milled coffee, tea and pastries, as well as some outrageous chocolate-themed shakes, according to the franchise’s Instagram. The owners were inspired by chocolate cafes in London.
“Step in one of the cozy houses of Chiqueolatte and talk with your friends and family while you immerse cookies and marshmallows in the chocolate fondue,” the franchise’s website reads.
“With that you will drink off [sic] course an organic tea. Or go for a coffee that has a delicious cacao flavour here at Chiqueolette. Relaxed music in the background ensures a wonderfully relaxing afternoon.”
When the Logan Square cafe will open and what it’ll offer is unclear. The owners couldn’t be reached for comment Friday morning.
Half Italian, the deli and market that previously called the storefront home, closed in spring 2018 after landlord Mark Fishman tripled their rent.
